Gen-X - Biography

Gen-X approaches and performs every gig as if it was their last. This shows our audience the passion we have to perform and gives them an entertainment experience they take home with them with an overwhelming desire for more.

Lead Vocals…Bec McLennan

Rebecca (Bec) McLennan comes to Gen-X from the world of musical theatre and when you see her perform you soon realize she is an absolute star!Just before joining Gen-X, Bec played the role of Tanya in MAMMA MIA!Bec is a seasoned and celebrated performer whose talent has graced stages across a wide array of productions. From her standout performances as Morticia in THE ADAMS FAMILY MUSICAL,Scaramouche in WE WILL ROCK YOU and Sherrie IN ROCK OF AGES, to memorable roles in RENT, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,SHE LOVES ME,TWO POINT OH,AIRNESS and COMPANY.Bec’s dedication to her craft has earned her acclaim, including a CONDA award for Best Female Actor in a Musical in 2015.Her contributions to the stage have garnered further recognition, with nominations for the same award in 2018, 2019 and 2025.

Bass/Backup Vocals…Zoran Ilievski

Up until the original Exposé was formed in 1998,Zoran had only ever played Macedonian music. For 20 years he has played this style of music with Sydney bands but a few years ago when given the opportunity to join a rock band by his late friend GJ Smith,he didn’t let the opportunity slip.Nearly 30 years later, his enjoyment has not waned. When Exposé folded he founded Expozay,Lock’n’Load,4Play and now Gen-X.Not only is he the “bass man” but doubles up as the band's rigger and sound engineer with a distinctive philosophy:you need to not just hear the music with your ears but feel the music through your body.Zoran’s professional approach to everything he does on the night is designed to do one thing;to give the audience a maximum entertainment experience.

Guitar/Lead & Backup Vocals…Kris Arendse

Kris is the cornerstone of Gen-X; he truly is the “human jukebox” with an uncanny ability to literally play anything any audience throws at him.Not only does he play everything he learns note and style perfect,he’s also sings lead with an incredibly powerful voice. As a result of his relationship with the Spanish community of Newcastle,he has played in various Spanish clubs in Sydney and on several occasions has performed at the Sydney Opera House.Swap the Flamenco 6 string for a Les Paul and you’d swear you’re at a Metallica gig! Kris has been Dinah Moe Hum, Aftershock,Offworld, Oracle, Expozay, 4Play and Lock’n’Load. His influences include his father John, Kirk Hammett,Jimi Hendrix,Paco de Lucia,Gary Moore,Randy Rhodes,Marty Friedman, Zakk Wylde and Frank Zappa. If you love the 6 strings,it doesn’t get better than Kris.

Drums/Lead & Backup Vocals... Gav Fisher

Gav has been beating drums for over 3 decades.Over the years,Gav has played drums and toured Australia with jazz bands, blues, cabaret, punk, pop, and rock acts, and his "bedrock beats" are well sort after. His greatest drumming influences include Phil Collins,Ringo,Steve Gadd,Manu Katche and Jim Keltner.Gav knows that you need a solid foundation to build grooves on,and his vocal harmonies are a valuable asset to the sounds of Gen-X.

Guitar…Jesse Crichton

Jesse has decades of experience under his fingers, with his musical path being rooted in heavy, aggressive and technically demanding genres.Over the years Jesse has performed in a wide range of bands across the metal spectrum including The Paradox Unseen (Melodic Metalcore), Enviktas (Folk Metal),Hysterectomy (Slam/Deathcore),Blade of Horus (Technical Death Metal),Widower (Hardcore),and Russian Novel (Progressive Metal). Each project has helped shape his dynamic playing style, blending precision, intensity and musical versatility.Jesse has been deputising as the axeman in Gen-X for 10 years now but recently he’s become the fifth member expanding his musical résumé by diving into classic bangers alongside friends and family while still bringing his signature edge to the stage. Jesse is currently an endorsed artist with Ormsby Guitars and his rig is built for modern performance relying on Ormsby guitars and a Fractal FM3 to deliver his tone both live and in the studio.
