People are often criticized for doing too many different things but some people need to have challenges and new projects. Anthony Lee is that entertainer. He's known as a crowd pleaser with his cheeky persona able to win over his audience. At the Star Music Awards in 1993 he won Best Soloist, Best Rock Song writer, Best Ballad writer and Performer of the Year. Anthony is proudly a Newcastle boy where he trained as a Primary School Teacher but pursued a career in music. After graduating with a Diploma in Teaching at Newcastle teaching college he moved to Sydney where he performed in many piano bars and discovered his flair for comedy characters.He developed his comedy character Doug Kembrey and went on to win Hey Hey it's Saturday with the SSS song. He opened Cairns Colonial Resort in 1987 and he opened Lindeman Island Resort in 1988 as resident soloist. He toured Queensland as lead singer with a synthesiser band in the late 80's and performed on many national television shows as a songwriting soloist. He has released 6 original albums and several singles with airplay on many radio stations across Australia and overseas.
In 1991 he began performing at the icon Wog Rock Cafe where he developed his comedy character Carlos Hopontopofus and performed his stand up comedy show 4 nights a week which was booked out nights 13 months ahead and won best entertainment restaurant in NSW. In 1997 he wrote and performed the National Tribute to Princess Diana "Shine Your Light"that received both national and overseas airplay. He supported the Screaming Jets on stage in 1997 at Civic Park to 100,000 people for the Newcastle Knights Grand Final victory. He sang the National Anthem at the Football to over 25,000 people He performed a set at Speers Point Park for Xmas Carols in the park to 50,000. He also creates short film. He released a ghost investigation documentary in 2015 "Newcastle Ghostly Tales" and a Tropfest comedy short film "A friend in need"in 2017. He has appeared on stage at the Civic Theatre in 2012 for the ABC Night of the Radio National broadcast where he performed original songs with his 1920's style band.
Currently he is working on 3 children's books, a new original album and a song release in America with an American producer and performing as Carlos at Dixon Park Surf Club and writing Jingles for radio as well as performing as Carlos and as a soloist at corporate gigs. He lives in Newcastle with his wife of 23 years and son.
