Get to know our acts - 4

5 August 2020

Another 4 of our amazing acts have answered a few questions for you to get to know them, happy reading!

ROSE PEPPER

At what age did you start performing?

Max grew up from a young age singing and writing songs, performing with her Guitar and Jeremy has played guitar in a bunch of bands, starting at the age of 13.

We have both been performing for as long as we can remember but formed our Duo “Rose Pepper” officially in 2019.

What is your favourite thing about it?

We are both lucky to call ourselves full time Musicians, Something that we both worked towards for so many years separately and now we love that we are able to play music together in between our other original music projects.

Best memory with performing?

As a duo, We have so many amazing memories, its hard to choose just one. We love the life long friendships we have made with people while playing at special occasions like Weddings, Birthdays and being a part of those celebrations.

Your favourite venue to play at?

Impossible to pick one! We love the Newcastle music scene and we’re so lucky to have so many rockin’ venues to play at!

A fun fact about yourself?

Our name “Rose Pepper” is also the name of our favourite Mexican restaurant in one of our favourite cities in the world, Nashville, Tennessee.

FELIX QUINN

At what age did you start performing?

We all started playing in church between 10 and 12 years old.

Mark and I met as we both were a part of the youth band and a church event when we were 13 and we have all played with each other in different bands over the years. We have all been members of the same band at different times but 3 years ago we played together for the first time and something really special musically happened which is rare!

What is your favourite thing about it?

How much fun we have off stage, the sore ribs from laughing too much, the good times we have together and eating CHICKEN WINGS together (Caves Beach you are the best hands down)

Best memory with performing?

It was at a wedding and a groomsman with the most stunning mullet doing a lap dance on the bride all the way down to his G string while we played “Pony”. That image is burned in our minds forever!

Your favourite venue to play at?

 Wineries in the hunter valley!

A fun fact about yourself?

Each band member would say they are the least talented member in the band and raves about how amazing and talanted the other band members are! (Except for Tyson, he knows he’s the best and somehow tolerates the rest of us)

GEN-X

At what age did you start performing?

My first gig (playing drums) was at the age of 14, but I actually started playing inverted buckets and pots with chopsticks as drumsticks at the age of 8!

What is your favourite thing about it?

I love entertaining people. Watching them have a great time because of the performance we do is the juice for me.

Best memory with performing?

This is a hard one, there’s so many that I’ve shared with so many different band members and audiences over the years. If I were to nail one, it would have to be the gig we did at The Delany back in June of 2016. That was the gig that my son made his Delany debut at the age of 16 and the place was packed to the rafters. The look on his face at the end of the show as person after person came up to us and just wanted to tell us how much they enjoyed the show was priceless. For him that night, he realised what playing music is all about, shear enjoyment from entertaining people.

Your favourite venue to play at?

Anywhere there is a crowd enjoying what we do, whether that’s in front of 20 or 200 people it doesn’t matter. If I were to name one venue though as my favourite, it’s The Kent Hotel.

A fun fact about yourself?

I’m going to cheat here and answer all the questions because they are all good:

Can be how you came up with the act name – back in 2008 when we came up with the name Gen-X, all 4 band members were actually genxer’s. That’s changed a bit now with 2 genxer’s and 2 millennials.

How you all got together – Kris was introduced to me as a friend of my then guitar player (back in 2000). Shae was introduced to me by Genr8 and Nick, well, he’s home grown.

Where you might practise – I’ve built a special sound room in my house but at one stage we used to practice at Mt View High!

How long you have been together for? Kris (my brother from another mother) and I are the founding members all the way back to 2002. Shae joined us in 2015 whilst Nick became a fulltime band member in 2018.

GLEN HARRISON

At what age did you start performing?

What is your favourite thing about it?

The crowd reaction seeing the smiles and tapping feet.

Best memory with performing?

Best memories are always getting to perform with family

Your favourite venue to play at?

I love the Kent hotel the crowd are always ready for music and ready to dance and have a good time.

A fun fact about yourself?

I fly drones as a second job!
